June 17, 2022 - Progress, Free Coffee at Torrey Pines, 2022 US Open, and more.

What's up you guys,

Whoooaaaa we're at 80 subscribers as of this morning. Holy fucken shit. Thank you!! We were just at 22 or somn last week, that's crazy. Welcome to all the new subscribers. I write weekly here on all things Montes Collective: golf, skate, surf, snow, and more. I share some of my day to day experiences and also give you (the core customers) updates on the business and how I'm running it. A lot of y'all are here from ordering the Henley 2.0, I'm excited to get these in your hands, they are so sick. Good luck on the Stealth Giveaway as well! I want to reiterate as well that this is a pre-order. I'm in talks with the manufacturer and they told me we can expect to have 'em in August. Thanks for rockin' with us and I will do my best to get them to y'all ASAP!

Torrey Pines Hacks

I was able to snipe another tee time at Torrey for last Thursday AM (lfgggg). If you're a golfer in SD, you know how hard it is to book a tee time at Torrey. Absolutely ridiculous. If you're unfamiliar, I'ma walk you through it right now.

Torrey makes tee times available 0-7 days out. Basically, they "drop" the tee sheet at 7PM (PST) every day for the following week. So if I want to book a time for next Friday (6/24), those times will drop tonight at 7PM. Your best bet is to be on your computer at around 6:58 and load up the screen and refresh until 7PM. If you would like to book ahead, they also make tee times 8-90 days out, but you have to pay a $30 reservation fee per head.

Back to last week's round... I woke up a little late and didn't have time to make coffee. Torrey is getting more strict about checking in on time, and they require you to check in at least 30 minutes before you tee off or else they'll give it up to someone on the walk-in wait list. I made it right at the 30 min mark and checked in. Ok... 28 minutes until we tee off. I don't normally hit range balls, and I didn't want to putt for a half hour. So I looked for an open snack bar to buy coffee and chill. I asked around and was told to go to the Torrey's hotel/resort next door called The Lodge. Brought my wallet and braced myself for a $6 cup of coffee. I cut through the restaurant and walked through with the lights off and chairs up; it was 5:50am and not ready to be opened quite yet. I ran into one of the custodians and let them know the pro shop directed me here for some coffee. They took me through an employees-only hallway and into an elevator that got me to the lobby. The lobby was furnished with shiny dark wood and was completely empty. I was led to a room with a bar. At the end of the bar was two stainless steel tanks labeled (Coffee) and (Decaf). "For free???" I thought to myself... "Say less" lmao. Now you know where to get free coffee at Torrey!!! You're welcome.

2022 US Open

I'm excited to see how this year's US Open will play out. I don't have any strong predictions on who I think will be taking it this year. But I always enjoy following how the amateurs perform during the week/weekend (if they make the cut). On Instagram, I follow a top golf instructor based out of San Diego that goes by the name of Adam Porzak (@porzakgolf). He coaches the top talent in the nation. A lot of his guys go on to play on tour. People fly from all over the country and even the world to work with this guy. I believe he is caddying for one of his guys, Travis Vick, this week and I'll be following along since I've been following Porzak's IG story. I for sure recommend this account if you like watching pureeeee golf swings at exclusive clubs around the nation. That one and @countryclubcollection is a solid one too.

Giveaway (no) Purchase Necessary

Thanks to those who've purchased a henley and entered the giveaway for the Stealth. I appreciate every single one of y'all. Last night I opened up the giveaway post to check how the engagement was coming along. I found myself with a new comment from a lady telling me what I was doing was illegal and to check with the attorney generals office or something... Wtffffff. My stomach kinda turned right as a read it and I immediately opened up Google to see how bad I fucked up. I was low key panicking and thought, maybe starting a business isn't as dope as I thought if I have to deal with a lot of shit like this. But as I thought more about it, it just means that my post is actually going places and getting in front of the eyes of more and more people. No such thing as bad publicity or somn like that??? Oh well. I found a solution this morning and updated the giveaway instructions so no one is adversely affected. I'll take this one as a learning lesson and keep it goin'. 1% better every day baby!!!!!

Also thanks so much for subscribing lfggggggg.

Til next week y'all.

Cheers,

JR Montes
