Sup world,
It's currently 3AM; we are in Day 3 of our week long trip to Italy celebrating my parents' 30th wedding anniversary. Congrats mom and dad we love you! I've had 0 issues sleeping the first couple of days but for some reason jet lag is hitting me on this 3rd day. I might as well take advantage of the quiet time and knock out the 12th issue of the newsletter for you guys. Gonna get through this one quick tho because we have an early train ride to Florence to catch tomorrow morning.
Developing our Mission
The past month or so I've been really tryna dial in on gaining clarity on the purpose of the brand. What is our mission here at Montes Collective? I've been searching from inspo from brands I admire. You have Malbon Golf who is laser focused on "Inspiring today's youth to participate in the greatest game on Earth." Then you have our neighbor, Vuori, based out of Encinitas, CA who defines themselves as a new perspective on performance apparel: "Built to move in. Styled for life."
I have so many narratives and theses for the brand scattered throughout my Notes app, iMessage, notebooks, and more. It's been challenging to bring it all together into a concise mission statement. In all honesty it still feels very messy and undefined in my head. All I know is that I really love golf because of one main reason: Golf always challenges me to be the best version of myself I can be. Golf is a constant test of my abilities, both physically and mentally. Golf is amazing when you're hitting the ball well and executing all of your shots. But it's also frustrating when you're doing the exact opposite because you know you're capable of much more. This has translated to many other aspects of my life tho; career, family, relationships, shit... maybe even fantasy football too (lol). I believe everyone should be chasing their fullest potential. And I'd be stoked for that to be the core pathos of Montes Collective. There's another side of the brand I want to tap into as well though as we have a pretty non-traditional take on golf apparel. Montes Collective also aims to provide new golfers with an experience that's familiar to them. We are offering a fresh approach to the golf lifestyle. We're giving new golfers a place to shop that is NOT the PGA Superstore or Golf Mart. Our brick and mortars are familiar experiences that our followers are used to (think Stussy, The Hundreds, Undefeated, and even blending in with brands like Lululemon and Vuori). I still remember walking into The Hundreds SF for the first time ever. I want to provide that feeling too. There are so many other things that I want to bring to life and I know the mission statement will be constantly evolving as we grow. This is very much the beginning of OUR brand and this is what I'm at peace with for now. What do y'all think? Take a look at some of the new copy on our website and let me know.
Book a Tee Time Tees are now available on the website. You can click the product photos below to get sent to the product page on our website. There are only 2 available per size and once these colors sell out that's it! Grab 'em while you can.

Beginner Golf Term of the Week: Ball Marker
Ball markers are used on the green as a placeholder for your golf ball. The USGA says you can use whatever you want to mark your ball. You can even mark your ball with a pre-roll. Most people use coins, poker chips, or markers provided by the pro shop. We're coming out with some heeeaatttt for ball markers for y'all so stay tuned!
Hit 'em straight this weekend and I'll see you guys next week.
Cheers,
JR Montes
